Letting It All Hang Out

I found two important books this weekend, one leading me to another. The first is “Bird by Bird” written by Anne Lamott and the second is “Writing Down the Bones” by Natalie Goldberg. The gist of each is that a person who wants to be a writer must — and this is the kicker — write. Regularly. Prolifically. Honestly. And more often than not, horribly.

So be forewarned…there will be more crummy posts coming. Posts that don’t make sense. Posts that might offend. Posts that are just plain, self-indulgent @#$%. Because I’m done waiting for the laundry basket to be empty, or for the kids to be in school, or for my thighs to be thin. All my excuses are out the window, and it’s time to bare all.

My name is Jodi. And I am a writer.

Love it. It’s the best and simplest advice. A writer must write.

Thank you! I needed to be reminded that I write because I want to and I like to! I, too, shall write!

The first step is admitting it.

Yay! Welcome to the madness. Love Bird by Bird, the other, not so much, but whatever gets you to the page is right for you. They say you have to write a pile of cr*p as tall as you before you get anything worth publication. After nearly 10 years I think I’m past my knees…

ps I wish I could be as brave as you to say ‘you know what guys – just bear with me while I pour stuff out.’ I wish. I want to.

I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was curious what all is required to get setup? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet savvy so I’m not 100% certain. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Kudos

Not at all. Try blogspot.com for free blogging or just google. I think there are actually tons of free options.
