Jack had been staring intently at an almost 20 year old photograph of his dad and me at Jason’s Senior Prom. I wore a fitted black sequined gown with a giant puff of white netting on one shoulder — an ode to early 90s fabulosity. And my bangs glistened like plastic from the repeated coats of hairspray I’d showered down on them in hopes of combating the torrential downpour we had to run through on the way to the car. I smiled to myself as I remembered finding sequins in my mom’s sewing room for months after the fact. And it’s only been a couple of years since Jason’s boutonniere finally disintegrated and had to be thrown away.
Jack ended my trip down memory lane when he looked up at me and said in an awestruck voice, “Mom, you were so beautiful when you were young!”
Standing there in my oversized pajamas with my head full of unwashed hair, I managed to muster a grin and say, “Thank you, baby. That’s so sweet of you to say.”
Now you’ll have to excuse me. I need to go book a facelift and full-body liposuction. Barring that, looks like a diet and exercise regimen is definitely on my New Year’s To-Do List.
hahaha I love it.
Yeah, i can relate….my kids were referring to the “olden days” the other day while playing, and I overheard them state “Back in the olden days, like 1984…” Wow!
That Jack!!!
